Since now autonomic update notifications are disabled, you may want to check periodically whether you really need to update Adobe Flash. Simply again, open the Flash Player Updates section, and click “Check Now”. To disable auto update you need to create file mms.cfg and place it in C: WINDOWS system32 Macromed Flash on every client computer (32bit). On 64bit machines location is C: Windows SysWOW64 Macromed Flash. The file should have only one line of text AutoUpdateDisable=1 It must be saved in UTF-8 encoding.

• Trinity, can you use Adobe customization tool for Flash? I've checked Adobe customization wizard 9 and 10 and they both only for Reader and Acrobat. I've tried to open flash msi, but got error. - Tanya_8 years ago
• If the Customization tool from Adobe is causing errors. You can also try using Orca. They provide the same function but orca works with almost all MSI's:

• Trinity, I've tried Orca and Admin Studio already, but couldn't find option to disable this updater. as part of the update I always create mst file using admin studio and change two parameters there:
  IScheckforproductupdate – 0
  Agree ToLicense – yes

  • Tanya, the easiest way with Orca is to make a single edit to the command line parameter passed to the installer. The -au 2 flag, when passed to the installer, causes it to create an mms.cfg file for you with the proper settings to disable automatic updates. • The 2 things I change in the MST that prevents updates are shown below:

• I've checked Advanced tab and it is showing up as never check for updates.
  But nevertheless I still have scheduler task on every computer to look for update every hour. Maybe it is actually doesn't look for updates and maybe it is not going to download updates, but it runs every hour! I can see it run in the event log. So this is what I what to disable, don't see a need for that to run, especially every hour. I deleted this service and scheduler task as a separate step, but was wondering if it is possible to do it in one go, and somehow not to install this updater at all in the first place.

How to remove the built-in version of Flash in Win10 and 8.1

Warning!!! Only for advanced users and for those accepting a certain degree of risk if they don’t understand the procedure and don’t follow correctly.

Optional first step

Disable Adobe Flash in Internet Explorer and Edge. This is not mandatory, but would make the clean procedure below even cleaner, although it has only cosmetic relevance.

Main procedure

Step 1. Log into Windows with an administrator account

Step 2. Verify your version of the Flash components.

Under C:WindowsservicingPackages, check for

The version number for Adobe Flash packages on Windows 10 1803 is 10.0.17134.1. It’s different on other versions of Windows 10.

There are additional packages referring to Language Packs installed on the system, but we are not concerned with them now, as they will be removed at the same time with the main packages.

Do nothing with those language packages (e.g. those flagged as en-us or other variations), but monitor for them to disappear from the folder when the uninstall is complete.

The screenshots below are from Windows 10 1803, but the procedure is relevant for all Windows 10 (and for Windows 8.1, although not tested).

Step 3. Type regedit in the search box and start the Registry Editor.

Step 4. Give your machine full control over the requisite keys.

4a. Right-click on the key name and choose Permissions. Give Administrators Full Control (screenshot) and click OK.

4b. Back in the main Regedit screen, on the right, change the Visibility value from 2 to 1.

4c. Still on the main Regedit screen, delete the subkey call Owners.

All that’s left is any copy of Adobe Flash that you’ve installed manually, most frequently as a plugin for Firefox. Manually installed Adobe Flash can be uninstalled as per normal procedure, from Programs and Features.
